Pedestrian airlifted after being hit by a pickup truck in Lehigh Acres

UPDATE (10:13 PM)-- A pickup truck driven by a 46-year-old male from Lehigh Acres was traveling south in the outside lane of Homestead Road, north of Ashlar Avenue.

A 21-year-old male from Lehigh Acres was standing on the west side of Homestead Road, just south of Ashlar Avenue. He attempted to cross the travel lanes of Homestead Road. The front right portion of Vehicle 1 collided with him.

The male came to rest on the west grass shoulder and was later transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

He is in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation


UPDATE 6:30 P.M.:
The roadway has been cleared and has fully reopened.


First responders are on the scene of a crash where a person was hit by a pickup truck near Homestead Rd. N And Taylor Ln., in Lehigh Acres. The person has been airlifted to a local hospital, according to Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue.

Homestead Rd. southbound is down to one lane.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
