COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A North Fort Myers man died in a crash involving a commercial truck in rural Collier County on Tuesday, troopers say.

It happened at the intersection of Everglades Boulevard North and 56th Avenue in the Rural Estates community.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 77-year-old Anthony Mankus of North Fort Myers was driving westbound on 56th Avenue at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday and stopped at the stop sign at Everglades Boulevard. He then proceeded into the intersection as a commercial truck approached northbound on Everglades.

The truck, which did not have a stop sign, hit the left side of Mankus' car.

Mankus was taken to Naples Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
