NORTH PORT, Fla — The North Port Police Department is responding to an incident where a man says he was treated unfairly during a traffic stop.

The police department posted a statement on Facebook.

On Saturday, August 29th, NPPD says they had to de-escalate a situation with an upset driver.

Officers pulled over a white truck because of a tail light issue, and the driver posted a video online claiming he was mistreated.

Police say the video the driver posted does not show the initial moments of the stop and that their body cameras captured the entire incident.

"We certainly understand the conversation taking place nationally when it comes to unequal treatment of minority individuals," police chief Todd Garrison said.

"Reviewing the video posted, I am very proud of our officers for working with someone who was very vocal and upset about issues he may be seeing, or has even experienced in other places."
