Cape Coral City Council approved an agreement between the city and the Florida Department of Transportation for a $729,412 grant. The money will be used to construct 2.3 miles of sidewalks along Trafalgar Parkway.

Countless cars race down Trafalgar Parkway according to those living nearby. With no sidewalks, neighbors are worried about the safety of those who walk up and down the street.

One of those people is Amy van Dyke. Her grandchildren live just across the street from Trafalgar Middle School. She told Four in Your Corner that the lack of sidewalks makes her worried; for her grandchildren and other children who walk along the road while cars pass by.

"There's so many children using this area that we really need a sidewalk", she said.

The Cape Coral City Council plans to put in more than one. There will be sidewalks on both sides of Trafalgar from Southwest 16th Court to Southwest 22nd Court. One sidewalk is also being added on Southwest 20th Avenue from Trafalgar to Pine Island Road. The plans are expected to be drawn up this year with construction beginning in 2021.

While the new addition is welcome, Amy van Dyke and other neighbors believe that construction cannot come soon enough.
