The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a sex crime at Island Coast High School in Cape Coral, where a girl claims she was sexually assaulted after ending up alone with an other student during school hours.
The incident report recorded by the Lee County Sheriff's Office paints a picture of disturbing allegations. A student at ICHS claims a male student exposed himself to her, grabbed her hair and forced himself onto her during school hours.
The reported has raised questions about supervision and a sense of safety at the school.
Four In Your Corner reached out to the Lee County School District to find out if any teachers or faculty have been placed on administrative leave because of this investigation. A spokesperson with the district says she's not at liberty to comment because it's an active investigation.
The school district would not comment about the alleged incident so Four In Your Corner also asked for clarification about supervision during school hours and if there is any point in time where students are left unsupervised. A district spokesperson sent this following statement:
"Each school has a safety and security plan tailored to its student population and campus. Supervision of students before, during and after school is part of that plan and an expectation of the district.
Florida Law and State Board of Education Rule (6A-10.081) also mandates professional conduct for the Education Profession in Florida. I've attached that rule to this email for ease of review.
As mentioned before, since this is an active investigation by an outside agency, we are not at liberty to comment. We are working with LCSO to provide information and assistance."
Dr. Streyfeller tells Four In Your Corner that in sexual assault cases that take place at school could trigger past victims to question school safety.
