GOLDEN GATE, Fla. -- Are you having trouble affording healthcare? A new health complex is being built in Golden Gate to help thousands of people in that community who are without access to basic primary healthcare.

Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida built the Nichols Community Health Center in the heart of the Golden Gate community. The facility is named after Naples resident and donor, Jerry Nichols.

Officials said Golden Gate is considered one of the most under-served regions in Collier County. More than half are living below the poverty level and uninsured.

The new center is a three-story medical complex and will have primary care for both children and adults.

It will offer an array of services like dental, prenatal, vision and much more.

The center plans to open for patients in the spring of 2020.

The network said affordable healthcare has been a critical need for the area.

They said many people have low paying jobs, which means they don’t have access to health insurance and can’t afford the premiums, high deductibles and copayments.

Network officials said the average income in Golden Gate is lower than about 80% of the country.

Wednesday morning, they are holding a topping off ceremony for officially completing the structural construction for the Nichols Community Health Center.

They will be putting the final steel beam into framework. The ceremony begins at 8AM.
