A two pronged plan to deal with flooding in a Naples neighborhood could cost homeowners thousands of dollars.
The join storm water/sewer project would install a water collection system under Cooper, Wisconsin and Illinois Drive, as well as Frank Whitehead Blvd, and 10th, 12th and 14th streets.
"There will be pipes to convey the water," said County Commission Chair Penny Taylor.
The other part of the plan would require 350 homeowners to remove their septic systems and hook up to the city sewer system.
They would be required to foot the bill, which at minimum is $20,000.
"As it is, I work to be broke, every time I get a paycheck it goes out to bills, if I had an extra $20,000 lying around I could think of a lot better things to do rather than ripping up my neighborhood and doing two years of construction," said Cooper Drive resident David Raffa.
Proponents say removing septic systems will reduce the flooding chances in a persons home.
"I have mixed feelings about it, I just put in a new septic system, 4 years ago, it was a lot of money," said Kenneth Vaughn.
Vaughn is still recovering from Hurricane Irma, and doesn't understand why the county is making him pay for it.
"We shouldn't have to pay for anything, they should take that out of their budget, and pay for it for us."
County officials say those who can't pay for the sewage fee right away, can have it added to their tax bill.
