A Naples couple had to get their condo fixed because of mold, drywall, and carpeting problems due to recent renovations from the unit above them.

They turned to Bonita Springs Floor Covering back in late October and wrote them out a check for a deposit.

"Total amount of money we had given them was 15 thousand dollars," said Harry Scholten, who had to fly in this week from Michigan to address the problems with his contractor.

The long distance was a challenge for both sides.

"I feel like we gave them plenty of time," said Scholten. "We were more than willing to work with them," he added.

Both Scholten and Bonita Springs Floor Covering signed a contract release form. Scholten is in the process of getting his deposit back.

Matthew Sinclair is the president of Sinclair Custom Homes. He says you have to do your homework in order to avoid headaches.

"You have to do your due diligence," said Sinclair. "Check for references, license, insurance, things like that," he added.

Sinclair also thinks you should be careful when you are asked to pay too much up front.

"Asking you know 50, 70, 80, or 100 percent that's a red flag," said Sinclair. "That's when you really need to call references and call your local licensing areas," he added.
