UPDATE: The American Meteor Society says the fireball seen in the sky over Florida overnight was likely an old Chinese satellite.

They say that they've received 23 reports and 3 videos of the event, and believe that it was too slow and fragmented to be a fireball. They say it was the re-entry of space debris, likely a Chinese satellite launched in 2015.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- If you were awake overnight, you may have seen something strange in the night sky.

We've had several reports of something falling to the ground around 1 or 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Video sent to Fox 4 by Jonathon Caruthers show objects that he says were falling for a long time, and there was nothing else in the Southwest Florida sky.

And this isn't the only video showing something mysterious in the sky. Our sister station in West Palm Beach had similar images sent to them.

The National Weather Service in Miami is even getting involved. All morning they've been getting videos and messages asking what this is, but they are also stumped.

So what do you think it is? Join the discussion on our Facebook page.
