A mother who just so happened to find her son lying in a ditch with broken bones, is pleading with the public to find the person responsible.

Carmen Olivo has been sitting by her 13-year-old son’s bedside in the ICU for four days. She and her son, Eric Pagan, arrived to Lee Memorial hospital on Friday after she spotted a child lying in a water filled drainage ditch near her home, and stopped to help.

“When I got closer it was like, I didn’t know it was my son at first when I hit the corner, but once I got to him I kept asking, what happened, what happened?” said Carmen Olivo.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Pagan was riding a scooter along Richmond Ave N. Friday around 8:30 p.m. when an unknown driver struck him.

Pagan’s scooter was left mangled, and there were several pieces of a shattered headlight littered across the lawn where he was found.

“It was my first time letting him out at dark time,” said Olivo.

A first time, she nor her son will ever forget.

“You didn’t stay and call the ambulance or anything. You just didn’t care,” said Olivo.

An anonymous donor has offered $2,000 for information that leads to the driver. Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is also offering a $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

“If they did it to my son and not care, they can do it to anybody and not care,” said Olivo.
