FORT MYERS, Fla. — Meet Noelle and Spike on Fox 4's Pets of the Week at Gulf Coast Humane Society in Fort Myers.

Both dogs are up for adoption soon at Gulf Coast Humane Society in Fort Myers.

Noelle was the 13-year-old American bulldog mix featured in the 7 o'clock show.

Spike was the 3-year-old brindle mixed breed featured in the 8 o'clock show.

The shelter says now is a good time for pet owners to refresh on summer heat safety.

Florida was one of the first states to make it legal for good Samaritans to break a window to rescue an unattended pet in a hot car.

“If you're not from Florida and you’re not used to the heat that we have here, you’re maybe thinking it’ll be fine for 5 to 10 minutes while I run into the store. That’s 5 to 10 minutes too long. Keep them cool and make sure they are hydrated," said Jessica Purdy, GCHS Volunteer Coordinator.

They also suggest checking for hot asphalt before taking your pet outside on a walk.
