CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Punta Gorda police chief says an officer was able to help save a man, thanks to the new Narcan program.
Last weekend, an officer found a man unconscious and barely breathing after a possible overdose.
It happened on Mediterranean Drive.
Luckily, the officer had Narcan on him and he was able to temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Chief Pam Davis says that while Punta Gorda has not seen a large number of overdoses, she opted to bring the program to the city to help reduce the impacts.
Each officer now carries Narcan, and it's provided to the city with the help of a grant.
