PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Babcock Neighborhood School is a special place.

And when it looks like the students are just having fun, they're learning in an innovative way.

Principal Shannon Treece invited Fox 4 Morning News to check out her school's "Make Tank." It's a technology room where students from kindergarten to 8th grade learn 3-D printing, coding, and other skills to solve challenges. Treece says the idea is to use the Make Tank for project-based learning. The students don't just study ideas, they get their hands on the technology.

It's also cross-curricular instruction. The students use technology to learn lessons about other subjects as well.

"We want to make sure we're produce students who are globally competent and critical thinkers," Treece says. "So this is a way we can bridge technology with our core academic concepts."

Saturday, November 16, the school will host the Thanks 4 Giving 5K race, to raise money to expand the program. The race starts at the school at 8 AM. Click here for more information.
