LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Car washes are about to get busier. It's lovebug season once again in Southwest Florida.

"Probably two out of five cars come in with lovebugs now," said Marcus Truscott, from Downtowner Express Car Wash off Pine Island road in Cape Coral.

Drivers didn't waste anytime to rid their cars of the insect infestation.

"If they dry, it could ruin your paint, and put stains on your car," said Keith Walker after he finished up cleaning his sedan.

Some cars needed a little extra elbow grease to remove the pest.

"Sometimes we have to have people come back around a second time they are really hard to get off," said Truscott.

Drivers have a 'love-hate' relationship with lovebugs.

"I love lovebugs, but don't like them on our car," said Jim Martin, another driver who stopped Tuesday afternoon to clean his ride.

Jim and his wife got their Cadillac crossover nice and lovebug free before they hit the road for a little vacation.

But the Martins know they'll wind up back at the car wash.

People at the car wash would rather deal with the bugs than snow.

"Would you rather have love bugs or salt from snow on your windshield? i rather have the love bugs," said Walker.
