LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Lee Health is working with Christy's Cause to educate medical professionals on the signs of human trafficking victims. It all started when an ER nurse noticed an increased number of human trafficking victims.

“We knew they were falling through the cracks, so that kind of drove this process,” said Jennifer Wolff, Lee Health Nurse.

Through education, medical staff to ask the right questions and what services to provide their patients. They also plan to start collecting data to generate the number of victims that come through Lee Health.

“The more we are aware of it, the more our society is aware of it, the more people are going to be recognizing it and we are going to get a leg up on this epidemic,” said Wolff.

Christy Ivie founded Christy’s Cause in 2016 to eradicate child sex trafficking through education and awareness.

“So passionate about being a freedom fighter for those who are trapped in a situation where they are being sexual exploited by human traffickers,” said Christy Iveie, Christy’s Cause.
