While in the hospital fighting brain cancer, Alex learned about a shortage of toys and gifts.

Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers says the nine-year-old boy never accepts donations for himself because he knows that there are other families that need it more than him.

That’s what he says motivated him to host a toy drive.

Prior to the official event, donations surpassed 2,000 toys.

On Friday, many in the community joined forces to help support Alex’s effort.

A storage container was placed in the hospital’s parking lot, and many people dropped off toys for children.

Local non-profit Heroes Unmasked attended the event, and dropped off ten boxes of toys.

Fort Myers printing company Carbon Press created a life-sized cut out of Alex as ‘Ironman’, and donated it to the event.

FOX 4 spoke with Alex’s mom who says she hopes that the drive also reminds families to find gratitude, even during a tough year.
