FORT MYERS, Fla. — 55-year-old Brett Pleasant was sentenced Thursday to life imprisonment following his conviction for murder.
A jury found him guilty earlier this month in the 2017 death of 77-year-old North Fort Myers resident Jo Ann Leasure.
The Vacation Bible School teacher was reported missing and later found dead of strangulation in her condominium. Investigators said she had been bound and beaten.
“[Pleasant] will never have the opportunity to hurt another innocent person,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “I hope the victim’s family feels closure knowing justice has been served.”
