LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a sixth homicide in Southwest Florida in the past week, this one in Lehigh Acres. Neighbors say they just want to protect their families.

“I stayed outside.. but all the kids stayed in the house," said one neighbor as she described seeing helicopters and police cars, Saturday night, on Acacia Avenue.

Her and her 11-year-old daughter live just a block over from where the incident took place. They say they saw the suspect running from the police on their street before being caught by the dogs.

"Cops all over the place," she explained. “That’s when they got the guy in the woods, the dogs got the guy in the woods.”

Neighbors who knew the family living in the house tell Fox 4 they believe the situation escalated from months of domestic violence and led to one person being violently stabbed.

LCSO has not confirmed the homicide as a stabbing. Deputies believe this to be an isolated incident and say the public is not at risk.

This is an ongoing investigation.
