Lee Health President and CEO Jim Nathan is asking the Lee Board of Directors to accept his request to relinquish his position and serve in a new role for the remainder of his contract.
Nathan has served as CEO since 2000 and is under contract until 2019. He previously served as President of the Lee Memorial Health System from 1982 through 1997. He left briefly to serve as a consultant for national healthcare reform.
In his new role, Nathan will be a resource to the Board of Directors. The appointment would be effective June 1 and continue through the end of his contract in March 2019. Nathan will retain benefits, but will not be paid any additional compensation.
Nathan says he desires to work at a different pace than he has for the past 40 years. "The timing feels right to make this transition. I am proud of the impressive team we have assembled and feel Lee Health is prepared for the challenges of a rapidly changing health care delivery system and the future world of coordinated care and population health," he said.
Nathan has watched as Lee Health has grown into a comprehensive system which includes four acute care hospitals, a rehab hospital, children's hospital and facilities which provide many other healthcare services.
