FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lee Health said a man whose name remained a mystery after spending more than a week in the hospital has been identified.

Officials said Steven Edwards was admitted into Gulf Coast Medical Center on July 22 with a head injury.

He had been found on the side of a road in Lehigh Acres. Edwards was admitted with no identifying information with him.

Officers ran a fingerprint check but with no results.

Within hours of a public plea, Lee Health says identifying information was provided, and reunification with family members was in progress. At the agency's request, we have removed the photos which were used to aid in his identification.

Edwards remains in critical condition at GCMC.
