NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — Randall Dunmire, the man who officials said fled a Lee County hospital over the weekend while still in scrubs, is the man who killed himself Tuesday morning following an overnight confrontation with law enforcement, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's Special Operations Unit responded to the Stockton St. trailer home before 8:30 p.m. Monday where the man barricaded himself inside.

Deputies say Dunmire attempted to set the trailer on fire. Dunmire reportedly ignored deputies' pleas to exit the residence and made gestures and threats of self-harm.

"The team conducted lengthy negotiations with the subject," officials said in a statement.

Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, officials said Dunmire stopped communicating with them. Deputies entered the home and found Dunmire dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Sunday, Fort Myers officers said 45-year-old Dunmire left Lee Memorial Hospital clad in medical scrubs. Cape Coral police confirmed Dunmire had been arrested on outstanding warrants and had been brought to the hospital for medical clearance.

Records show he was wanted for missing his court date after being arrested for multiple charges including burglary, grand theft auto, and resisting officers.
