CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral Police confirmed that 12-year-old Sierra Rose Vazquez is dead after a car hit her and her parents as they were walking into a Walmart on Del Prado Boulevard.

Officers say 85-year-old Roy Hensley mistakenly hit the gas pedal and hit the trio while backing out of a parking spot.

Sierra,12 was declared dead after being taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

As for her parents; one had non-life-threatening injuries, the other had minor injuries.

Jase Anzo works inside the Walmart and recalled hearing screams.

"It was horrible, it was not something that you would want to see," Anzo said. "It's something you don't expect to happen."

Police say neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this crash also they say speed was not a factor.

Hensley's car hit the bumper of a second vehicle, described as a late model green Ford F-250/350, which left the scene.

Police say Hensley is not facing charges at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation.
