LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Utility customers in Lee County may notice a change in the taste, odor, and color of tap water next month after a change in the disinfectant process.
According to Lee County Utility, from May 1 through May 29, they will be temporarily converting their disinfectant process from chloramines to free chlorine residual, a routine measure common among water utilities that use chloramines as a primary disinfectant.
This could have an impact on two groups of customers:
- Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact his or her equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment can be installed in advance.
- Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks.
