LEE COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, 15 school threats have been made across the county since the beginning of this year, compared to the 15 total threats made in 2018.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno with LCSO said, "I can not be more serious when I say we take every precaution possible to protect our children, and that we take every threat seriously. Let me be clear. Those who make threats, real or fake, will suffer severe consequences."

4 In Your Corner reached out to Lee, Collier and Charlotte County school districts, asking if any schools are taking extra security measures on the anniversary of the Parkland shooting on Thursday. Both Collier and Charlotte Counties said they've increased security since the shooting last year, but didn't mention any additional security for Thursday.

The Lee County School District said Thursday is a day of increased vigilance and awareness, but will not disclose what will or won't be done due to safety. For details on the security measures being taken in these schools, click here.
