FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lee County ranked 3rd in cities across the country with high job outlook, showing economic growth in the area.
“If you are looking for an opportunity of any kind you want to maybe look around for a switch of career this is your market,” said Janeth Castrejon.
Janeth Castrejon, the communications manager for Career Source says after a survey released by Manpower ranked Fort Myers and Cape Coral number three as the fastest growing cities in the nation for jobs outlook, this means employers in our area are hiring at a fast rate.
Castrejon says the survey represents employers who will be hiring in the early part of 2020.
“This represents a 31% of employers in this area that are going to hire for the first quarter of 2020 which is very close to us”, said Castrejon.
She says the survey also showed employers retention rate to maintain the workforce is very high.
“Then we see a 69 % of employers in this area are going to maintain the workforce this makes a lot of sense right now because we have the lowest unemployment close to record numbers,” said Castrejon.
And the number of layoffs in the upcoming year is low.
“Out of those employers that were interviewed for this survey we see zero numbers for layoffs and that’s also great news,” said Castrejon.
Leisure and hospitality, construction, and retail are the top three industries that will benefit from this economic growth in our area, however with that comes consequences.
“One of the consequences of a strong economy is then how do we help or how do we try to fulfill those positions they have available when there is not enough people out there looking for jobs,” said Castrejon.
Castrejon adding in order to benefit from this growth period you must first know exactly what you want to do.
“What is it that you want to do what career, what industry, you want to follow... the opportunities are here,” said Castrejon.
Castrejon also says compared to our numbers from the 2008 recession the Fort Myers area continues to show strong signs of improvement economically.
