LEE COUNTY, Fla. --- Lee County educator named finalist for Florida award.

Ken Savage, Principal at James Stephens International Academy, named one of three finalists for 2018 Principal of the Year Award by the Florida Commissioner of Education.

Principal Savage was appointed principal for James Stephens International Academy in 2016 and has helped improve the schools grade from an F to an B.

Pam Stewart, Florida Commissioner of Education says Savage is being commended for being a self-starter, critical thinker and his ability to make decisions based on the achievement of students.

"When a school turns around its performance, it can really inject new life into the school and the community. In that sense, there is nothing more rewarding than being a turnaround principal," said Mr. Savage.

The 2018 Principal of the Year will be named during the Commissioner's Summit for Principals on February 9 in Orlando. The winner will also receive a cash prize of $5,000.00
