LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Lee County says it's activating its Cold Weather Outreach program as temperatures are expected to fall to the low 40's Friday night heading into Saturday morning.
The county says it has identified additional overnight sheltering capacity at the Bob Janes Triage Center, which is managed by The Salvation Army.
The county says volunteers will also be handing out blankets, hand-warmers, socks, coffee and free rides near various LeeTran routes between 5 and 6 p.m.
As part of the program, the county says staff and partnering agencies will conduct targeted outreach to known homeless encampments as well as locations like Lion’s Park, Cornog Plaza at the Fort Myers Regional Library, LeeTran’s Rosa Parks Transit Center, LeeTran’s Edison Mall terminal, LeeTran’s Cape Coral Transfer Center and the vacant shopping plaza at U.S. 41 and Hancock Bridge Parkway.
The county also said The Human & Veteran Services’ coordinated entry phone line has been updated with a cold-weather announcement promoting outreach locations, transportation assistance, sheltering and supplies. The number to that phone line is 239-533-7996.
The program will also go into effect Saturday night as cold temperatures are expected to return.
