LEE COUNTY, Fla.-- On Saturday, April 21, 2018, nearly 1,000 volunteers will help clean up our community for Earth Day.

This is part of Keep Lee County Beautiful's "Earth Day Trash Bash" event. The organization is a local non-profit that inspires, educates and engages the community in improving, beautifying and protecting our environment.

Their goal is to create a community that is a clean, green and beautiful place to live in.

In 2017, KCLB hosted 115 events that removed over 39,000 pounds of litter and debris from our local waterways and communities. They also planted over 13,570 trees and marked 385 storm drains.

Trish Fancher, of KLCB says there are 3 things you can do to help our planet: decrease your use of single use plastics, recycle smart and plant native.

You can replace your water bottles with reusable cups, bring reusable bags to the grocery store instead of using plastic bags and bring reusable containers to restaurants instead of using styrofoam to-go boxes.

KLCB wants you to know that only paper, metal, cardboard, plastic and glass should go in the recycle bins. Other materials can be donated like used clothes. You can also donate towels and blankets to animal shelters in need.

KLCB says native plants are adapted to our environmental conditions so they require less watering and maintenance. They provide food and shelter for native wildlife.

The Earth Day Trash Bash will take place at nearly 40 locations across Lee County. Volunteers will collect harmful debris and litter across our community.
