Charlotte County Public Safety shut down emergency response to calls for service due to Hurricane Irma at 10 a.m. Sunday.

This includes the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Charlotte County Fire & EMS and City of Punta Gorda first responders.

In a press release, Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell assured residents that services would resume as soon as possible.

“As we face this difficult period of time in which storm conditions prevent our response to calls, our thoughts are with everyone in this community. Rest assured, our deputies will be ready to respond as soon as conditions improve. I encourage you to remain safely secure where you are with your loved ones, and stay safe. We will get through this together.”

911 is still operational and all calls are being triaged for response when weather conditions permit.
