LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Someone may soon knock on your door as part of the 2020 U.S. Census. But how can you know they really work for the Census Bureau?

Starting August 4th, Field Data Collection Activity will begin in neighborhoods across the state, through October 11th.

There are a few ways to check to make sure the workers are legitimate:

--All staff will have an ID badge and provide you with a letter from the bureau.

--Staff won't visit you before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m.

--A field representative will be carrying an official bag with the Census Bureau logo or a laptop for conducting the survey.

And you can contact the Regional Office for Florida: Atlanta Regional Office 1-800-424-6974. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

And remember, they'll never ask for your full Social Security number, bank account number, or any passwords.
