CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The City of Cape Coral is looking into removing the maximum height requirement for non-residential buildings in the Corridor District along Pine Island Road.

It could mean that high rise buildings could soon be built in the area.

The district is more than 10 miles long connecting the city to I-75 and U.S. 41.

The city said this location is for hundreds of thousands of square feet of new commercial development and investment properties.

They want to remove the maximum height limitations for non-residential buildings. Right now, the maximum height is at 45 feet.

They said they want to remove it to accommodate the city’s, “Pine Island Road Master Plan.” In that plan, the Corridor District is meant for large scale, destination commercial and business development.

Officials believe the removal of the height limitation will help with that plan.

The city is voting on the ordinance during Monday’s city council meeting.
