TAMPA, Fla. -- Fox 4 is In Your Corner when it comes to keeping your family safe. That's why we went to Tampa to hear what Governor Ron DeSantis had to say about the state's crime rate, and the role Southwest Florida plays.

DeSantis spoke Tuesday night at the Florida Sheriffs Association in Tampa.

The governor's message was of unity and strengthening law enforcement presence in all of our communities throughout the state.
DeSantis announced crime rates are going down even more in our state.

The Sheriff's Association says that's because sheriffs state-wide are unified in their fight on crime. “We have had 48 straight years of reduced crime, and it's not by coincidence. It's by all the sheriffs coming together, getting better with one another and growing the state of Florida,” said representative Logan Lewkow.

While we were there, our crew tried speaking with Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno. This following an investigation by Four In Your Corner into the sheriff and his law enforcement background.

He didn't say much, but did tells us he would be willing to talk at a future date.
