LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a second sexual assault case reported at Island Coast High School. On March 23rd, a female student told authorities a male student sexually assaulted her on campus around September 30th.
Despite the alleged sexual assault happening 6 months ago, it's all students were talking about at school on Monday.
“I heard that it was in a classroom and that they were alone,” said Cindy Fraga.
The report said the victim and other student had "phone sex" in the 5 days leading up to the incident. While the two agreed to meet after school in an isolated area on campus, the victim said she never agreed to sex.
Last week another sexual assault was reported on campus.
On Monday, parents waiting to pick up their children said they don't understand how two students could be left alone on campus. Parents also expressed their frustration with the lack of information they've received from the Lee County School District.
"I definitely want more to be done and a lot more action taken," said parent Jessica Rose.
Fox 4 reached out to several elected school board members hoping parents could hear first hand what officials believe needs to be done to protect their children at school. The School Board Chair Mary Fischer replied to an email and said due to an ongoing investigation she had no comment at this time.
Rose said if both incidents turn out to be true, she's not only worried about her child in high school, but the impact this could have on her younger kids.
“As my other kids start getting older, yes I worry, you almost want to start homeschooling,” said Rose.
Fox 4 also reached out to a spokesperson at the Lee County School District for comment. The spokesperson said due to the active LCSO investigation they couldn't comment.
