FORT MYERS- Fla.-- A former Fort Myers official has been convicted for stealing tax dollars from a federally funded program.
38-year-old Twaski Jackson, the former Director of Client Services for the City of Fort Myers Housing Authority and the Lee County Housing Authority, pleaded guilty to stealing $86,000 from the agencies.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Jackson used his spending authority to approve expenditures toward his own college tuition and personal trips. He also made payments to a friend who provided no services for the agencies and instead split the money with Jackson.
Jackson now faces up to 10 years in prison. He must also pay the money back.
