FORT MYERS, Fla. — A beauty school in Fort Myers will now pay more than half a million dollars to the US Government.
Florida Academy will pay $512,000 to resolve allegations over misrepresentations to the Department of Veterans Affairs to receive VA funding.
As part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the VA provides tuition payments directly to schools on behalf of veterans who served after 9/11.
The US alleges that from 2017 to 2018, Florida Academy received funding, knowing that they did not qualify.
For a school to qualify, no more than 85% of the students for any course should receive VA benefits.
However, according to the allegations, almost all the students enrolled in one class at Florida Academy were veterans whose tuition was paid for by the VA.
