A Fort Myers teen has died, and another has been transported to the hospital after a box truck and car collided at Broadway St. and Palm Beach Blvd. in Alva.

Florida Highway Patrol says a 16-year-old female was traveling eastbound in a sedan on Palm Beach Boulevard.

Troopers say in the car with her was a 14-year old male passenger.

The 16-year driver got into the left turn lane and attempted to execute a left turn onto northbound Broadway Street.

The driver of the box truck was traveling westbound on Palm Beach Boulevard and was approaching the intersection of Broadway Street.

Investigators say the 16-year-old driver made a left turn into the path of the box truck.

They say the front of the box truck ended up colliding with the ride side of the sedan.

Both vehicles ended up in the northwest grass shoulder of the intersection.

Troopers say the 14-year-old passenger of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year driver of the sedan was sent to the hospital in serious condition, and the truck driver appears to have no injuries, according to FHP troopers investigating the crash.

There is currently a roadblock.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
