COLLIER COUNTY, Fla — Florida Highway Patrol has arrested a man they say was involved in a crash that killed a dog and sent a man to the hospital.

Troopers say a 62-year-old man from Naples was traveling west on Port Au Prince Road in a sedan.

They say the man was approaching Collier Boulevard.

A 59-year-old man from Naples was walking his dog on the east shoulder portion of Port Au Prince Road when the sedan veered left and traveled on the wrong side of the road and hit the man and his dog, troopers say.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and the dog was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the sedan was arrested for driving while under the influence.

He was later admitted to a hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

Troopers say a criminal charge will be made when the driver is released from the hospital.
