Crash leaves motorcyclist dead in Fort Myers

**UPDATE (9PM)** -- Troopers say a Fort Myers motorcyclist is dead after he was hit and run over by an SUV Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 pm at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Michael G. Rippe Parkway.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the 63-year-old motorcyclist, who's name has not been released yet, was northbound on U.S. 41 and entered the intersection on a red light, into the path of a westbound SUV.

The SUV, which had been waiting at a red light, had just started to enter the intersection on a green light and hit the right side of the motorcycle, knocking the rider off and running him over.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed in the crash.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- At least one person was killed in a deadly crash that happened in South Fort Myers Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway patrol.

It happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Michael G. Rippe Pkway.

At this time, the inside southbound lane is blocked at U.S. 41 and traffic is being rerouted.
