FORT MYERS, FLA — In what feels like a chilling case of deja vu, a family sings happy birthday. But the guest of honor, still isn't there.
Exactly one year ago, Keion Upshaw's family did this to honor him, after he was killed just before his 24th birthday, in front of his home on Gardenia avenue.
Fort Myers police says it was a drive-by shooting, with at least two shooters, but so far no arrests have been made that we know of.
Upshaw's cousin, Kimberly Morse, says those shooters took him away from his two young sons.
"They left children fatherless," she said.
His sister, Brittany, adds that the pain is still fresh one year later and so is the confusion surrounding the crime.
According to them, Upshaw was a homebody, who didn't really bother anyone.
"Carter, he was five months at the time so he will never get to know his dad at all," she said.
And one year later, the family is still asking for your help.
"Speak up. If you know something, say something. It's the right thing to do," said Morse.
Trish Routte, the coordinator for Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers says even a small tip or lead could make a difference in Upshaw's case.
"You can't tell me that in the middle of Fort Myers at that time that no one saw anything," she said.
Upshaw's family says closure in cases like these is vital for everyone involved.
"It would make it much easier on these families that are hurting. And that's for any family that's going through the same thing," said Morse.
There is a 3,000 dollar reward in this case for any tips that lead to an arrest.
