FORT MYERS, Fla. — A San Carlos Park Elementary School teacher is under investigation for allegedly taking a video of a student and then sharing it on SNAPCHAT without her parents’ permission.

It’s not clear what was in the video, but that child’s parents think there’s more to what the elementary school found in their investigation.

A report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said a parent reported a teacher, “took a SNAPCHAT video of her 5-year-old daughter last month,” while she was at school.

The report said the teacher “then shared the video with a friend and did not ask the parents’ permission, violating a teacher-parent-student confidentiality.”

Jerry Skrivan’s son and daughter go to San Carlos Park Elementary School. He said when he heard what happened he thought about his daughter.

“My immediate reaction was to come and pick up the little lady here,” he said. “That’s why I decided to pick them up a little early,”

In a statement the Lee County School District said, “We are aware of the allegations and investigating.”

The elementary school also looked into what happened, but the sheriff’s report said the student’s parents didn’t think their investigation was thorough enough.

Skrivan said even though he doesn’t know the nature of the video, he wouldn’t feel comfortable with any teachers recording his kids without his permission.

“I don’t want it done to any of them. I don’t want it done to any kid,” he said.

The Department of Children and Families and the LCSO’s Special Victims Unit were also notified about this case.
