LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — A Lehigh Acres family is pleading for your help finding the person who shot and killed their dog.

This happened in the area of jones drive and Leda Avenue in Lehigh Acres.

Fox 4 spoke with the family who says they are devasted and are doing all they can to get answers.

They say they were gearing up to take the dogs on a walk last Saturday, when their son opened the door and both dogs ran out unleashed.

Moments later he heard several gunshots, “next when she came back there was blood all over her, ” said Treyvion Brown.

They then found one wound, which appeared to possibly be from a BB gun.

Treyvion says their dog Kiya was his best friend and support dog.

The family watched over their injured dog for nearly 18 hours before things took a turn for the worst.

“ She was already going into a shock, her bowel movements were coming out. She wouldn’t look at me her breathing had deteriorated and she stopped breathing in my arms, " said Brittlynn Brown.

The dog was no stranger to the area and had been apart of this family for over three years.

“The neighborhood was attached to her, everybody here knows each other and knows the dog, everybody loved her, ” said Brittlynn Brown.

Ms. Brown had a few words for whoever shot her son’s dog.

“There are many other ways to scare a dog off, you didn’t have to be as cruel to shoot my dog, ” said Brittlynn Brown.

Trish Routte with the Lee County Sheriffs Office notes this incident is not to be taken lightly.

“Taking a dog’s life even if you think they were being a nuisance dog...you can not take matters into your own hands and shoot an animal, ” said Routte.

There has been a neighborhood search, but so far no one has come forward.

“There is only a small area that this could have occurred, its got to be a neighbor or someone visiting the area, ” said Trish Routte.

If anyone has any information about this shooting you are asked to call Crime Stoppers.
