Escaped prisoner found, taken into custody

UPDATE 5:18 PM:

Today at approximately 2:51 pm, Hendry County Investigators with the assistance of the US Marshals Office captured 25-year-old Miguel Angel Nunez of Labelle.

Nunez was taken into custody from a home at 990 Tropicana, in Labelle. He surrendered peacefully and without incident.

Nunez was transported to the Hendry County Jail where he is being held under strict observation pending additional charges from Lee County


UPDATE 2:00 PM:

At approximately 2:51 pm, US Marshals took 25-year-old Nuñez into custody.

He is being transported to the Hendry County Jail.


UPDATE (10:23 AM)-- The Hendry County Sheriff Office says Nunez fled last night after transferring to a treatment facility in Lee County.

When Nunez was released to the treatment center, the deputy returned to the transport vehicle and heard someone shout out, "he's running."

UPDATE (10:00 AM)-- The Hendry County School District has placed Country Oakes Elementary on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.

This will be in effect until the Sheriff's department directs otherwise.

UPDATE (7:46)-- The Lee County Sheriffs Office has confirmed an unknown associate of the escaped inmate has picked up the prisoner.

The Sheriffs Office believes the inmate is no longer in the area.

The Fugitive Warrants Task Force will continue the investigation.

The Lee County Sheriffs Office is assisting the Hendry County Sheriffs Office in the search of an escaped prisoner.

LCSO and the Hendry County Sheriffs were searching in the area of McGregor Baptist Church.

The Sheriffs Office says they are using all of their assets, including aviation.

Deputies are searching for 25-year-old Miguel Nunez. He has a tattoo of a Triangle below his left eye.
