Death penalty to be sought for accused officer shooter

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The State Attorney's Office announced Friday their intent to seek the death penalty for the man accused of shooting and killing a Fort Myers Police officer last month.

Wisner Desmaret was arrested following an altercation last month in which Desmaret used Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller's gun to shoot him in the head.  Jobbers-Miller died a week later.

The State Attorney’s Office 20th Judicial Circuit Death Penalty Review Committee met Friday and recommended seeking the death penalty.

Desmaret was indicted by a Lee County Grand Jury on August 10th for the offense of First Degree Murder.

Desmaret was also indicted for Attempted First Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, Robbery, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting an Officer with Violence, Depriving an Officer of Means of Protection, Burglary of a Conveyance, and Grand Theft.
