Collier deputies crack down on school zone violations

10 citations were issued for passing a stopped school bus

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Students returned to classes in Collier County on Tuesday, and sheriff's deputies were on the road to help create a safe environment for them to arrive.

Their aggressive driving and commercial vehicle teams were on duty Tuesday morning and afternoon, monitoring bus routes for Gulfview Middle School and Poinciana Elementary. Deputies did issue several citations for passing a stopped school bus, and well as other violations.

The following citations and warning were issued:

10 citations for passing a stopped school bus
3 speeding citations
2 citations for drivers violating a traffic control device
2 citations given to truck drivers using cell phones while operating a CMV, a $500.00 fine for each citation
1 warning for failure to carry a drivers license
1 warning for speed

Deputies will continue to enforce the rules of the road the rest of the week and all school year.
