COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Collier County Public School’s reopening plans are now fully in place.

School board members officially announced several learning options for parents and students to choose from.

“We understand it’s impossible to open schools and eliminate all the risks, today we are about mitigating the risks for our students and staff, ” said Kamela Patton.

CCPS superintendent Kamela Patton unveiled the four instructional models for their moving forward reopening plan.

OPTION 1 - ATTEND SCHOOL ON CAMPUS
This option would have your student attending school on campus daily with the following, but not exhaustive, safety precautions, to the greatest extent possible. With Option 1, you are selecting a daily, on-campus model.

OPTION 2 - eCOLLIER ACADEMY: FULL-TIME SET/STRUCTURED VIRTUAL LEARNING

With Option 2, your student would be participating in full-time virtual learning through eCollier Academy in a set/structured, synchronous model with a set schedule (similar to a typical school day).

OPTION 3 - eCOLLIER ACADEMY: FULL-TIME FLEXIBLE VIRTUAL LEARNING

With Option 3, your student would be participating in full-time virtual learning through eCollier Academy in a flexible, asynchronous model (with regular interactions with teachers and peers).

OPTION 4 - HOME EDUCATION
This option would have your student taking part in a home education program with a parent conducting the reporting, record keeping, and student evaluation requirements.

Fox 4 spoke with some Collier County parents, many of whom are still weighing their options.

Dale Bammel and his family just moved here from Maine…he says in-person learning is the way to go, as he wants his children to meet new friends and become more interactive.

“Homeschool...we don’t have the time to do that. We both work and I don’t think the computer is a great way to learn, ” said Dale Bammel.

School will look a lot different for on-campus learners, as face masks and glasses will be provided and required for each student.

Hand sanitizing and washing will be built into schedules.

Everyone will be expected to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Under no circumstances should anyone come to school if sick.

“It is not normal to wear googles a mask to social distance the entire day, but still they need to socialize and they learn better when they are in a school setting,” said Vanessa Pagan.

Katie Andrae, a mother of three, is leaning towards virtual learning.

She says with the rising cases of covid-19 there is too much uncertainty.

“That lack of stability and knowing what to expect on a day to day basis, I think that will be the biggest challenge,” said Andrae.

The deadline to choose which learning option works best for your student is July 22nd.

The first day of school is set for August 19th.
