FORT MYERS, Fla. — This is one school-time Zoom call that no one had to be convinced to attend - a chat with a Super Bowl Champion.
Adding to the excitement: The featured speaker also graduated from the same high school where the students sat.
Chiefs star Sammy Watkins IV answered questions from the students that go to his Alma Mater - South Fort Myers High School.
The first question was from a student asking who Sammy sees as his "leadership influences."
"My family, my parents, my aunt," said Sammy.
"And all the teachers at South (Fort Myers) High."
He also let the kids know being a leader isn't always easy.
"When being a leader, you have to be uncomfortable," said Sammy.
"Be honest with yourself and who's ever around you to try to make them better."
Sammy stressed the importance of education to the students.
"Even though you might have money," he warned, "if you don't get an education, then it's hard."
When it comes to success, Sammy advised the kids to start setting themselves up for that now.
"Choose your friends wisely,' he said.
"Nobody is perfect, but you know what you should and shouldn't be doing."
"Being a celebrity," asked one student, "how do you deal with hate?"
"I know you get hate from people who hate to hate," said the student.
"Just worry about the people who love you," said Sammy.
"Just worry about the people that want the best for you."
Of course, there was a question about this Sunday's Super Bowl.
"How so how confident are you guys that you're actually going to win?" asked one student.
"I have confidence that we're going to do whatever is in our might to win," said Sammy.
"Can I guarantee that? No," said Sammy.
"But what I can say is, if we're all on the right page out there executing our plays, ain't nobody that can beat us."
