Carjacking suspect jumps into pond to avoid arrest in North Fort Myers

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who carjacked a victim before sending deputies on a chase into a pond.

The carjacking initially happened in Lehigh Acres.

Deputies say the suspect Daniel Monforto, 35, approached his victim and demanded money from him, then beat him and stole his vehicle.

Manforto fled but Detectives were able to locate the vehicle at a Circle K in North Fort Myers.

Deputies pursued the vehicle.

Monforto refused to stop, he then ditched the vehicle and fled to a nearby pond according to deputies.

Monforto refused to get out of the pond.

The Sheriffs Aviation Unit along with deputies and analysts were able to get Monforto out.

Monforto was charged with Carjacking without a Weapon and Aggravated Fleeing with Damage.
