A Cape Coral woman says she scared off a would-be intruder.

Erica Harmon said she called the Cape Coral Police Department to investigate.

Harmon said her dog started barking at the back door Monday morning. When she went to see what was going on, she saw a man trying to get into her lanai door.

"I didn't know if he had a gu or anything out there, but it was first instinct for me to scare him off," Harmon said.

She said the back door was locked and seeing her surprised him. He went running around the house and into the woods.

"I yelled at the top of my lungs 'You better get off my property because I have the cops coming!'" She said.

Harmon said the man jumped into his car parked out front, left the driver's side door open, and drove it in reverse. She thinks he did that so she couldn't see his license plate.

"I have three girls to take care of and I certainly don't want any of them harmed," Harmon said.

Cape Coral Police are still investigating.
