CAPE CORAL, Fla. — We are learning Cape Coral is collapsing a burrowing owl nest in preparation for the red, white and boom event tomorrow.

The city tells us the nest is inactive and there are no eggs or owls in it.

Cape Coral got permission from Fish and Wildlife to collapse the nest, which is located at the west end of the College Parkway Bridge.

The city says they did this to protect any owls during the Fourth of July event.

After tomorrow, they will install a new burrow in a more remote area of the property.

Earlier this year, Cape City Council approved a burrowing owl ordinance to give them more protection.
