CAPE CORAL, FLA. -- The superintendent of Cape Charter Schools, Nelson Stephenson, has announced he will resign from his position.

Superintendent Stephenson gave a letter to the Cape Coral Charter Governing Board about the announcement, he will finish his contract which ends June 30th. Stephenson didn't give a specific reason to why he is resigning.

"I think everyone was caught off guard a little bit," says Cape Coral City Council member Jessica Cosden   "But he's doing the right thing by finishing out his current contract. He's not leaving us with two weeks notice and didn't pack up his office and say 'sayonara'. He did the right thing."

Cosden says there will be an emergency meeting next week to discuss the options for the Cape Charter Schools, and that the Cape Coral Charter Governing Board and City Council need to work fast to find a replacement.
